Abstract Technostress is defined as the stress derived from the use of information technology. Prior researchers have studied this phenomenon in many situations such as in the work environment, concentrating on the effect of technostress on the individual who overwhelmed by the use of information technology on his/her job.

Academic literature, popular press, and anecdotal evidence suggest that ICTs are responsible for increased stress levels in individuals (known as technostress). However, despite the influence of stress on health costs and productivity, it is not very clear which characteristics of ICTs create stress.

We will first describe what digitalization of work is and what its main consequences are. Next, we will discuss how technology-related stress or ‘technostress’ is defined and distinguish specific dimensions of technostress. Computers and connectedness are part and parcel of today's workplace, but having to adapt to increasingly advanced technology has created a specific kind of stress for workers: technostress. New research has investigated the different dimensions of this technology-induced stress to show how each aspect can be managed to stimulate, rather than hinder, innovation. 2017-08-22 We define technostress as a negative psychological response to the use (and abuse) of technologies, as well as the harmful effects of the implementation of technologies within the workplace.
